sailing in sardinia italy – the best of the west coast
The W coast of Sardinia has several harbours & bays of magnificent beauty, yet it is cruised less than the other coasts.
It’s uncomfortable if the Mistral is blowing.
This video will show you the picturesque places you should not miss:
Bossa
The village of Bossa lies a mile from the port. Upriver on your dinghy or take the tourist train.
The fine sandy beach of Bossa attracts many tourists in the summer, but in the winter, it’s deserted.
Alghero
Allegro is a valuable port at the northern end of the west coast.
The port is in the heart of the city, the old Town.
You can find many shops, restaurants and gelaterie (ice cream shops) there.
The wide beach invites you to bathe in the turquoise water.
The area west of the city is known for caves above and below water.
Porto Conte
The bay is a spectacular spot. Impressive limestone cliffs and wooded hinterland enclose clear blue water
Visit the caves around- the most famous is Neptune’s Grotto.
You can sail around Grotto but there is no where secure to leave a yacht.
Very deep water
This is a very large anchorage area north of Porto Conte Marina. Anchor in 4-6 meters over a sand/mud bottom which has a very good holding. This anchorge provides shelter from NE to SW and south swells.
