Sailing in Maddalena Waters – Best Anchorages and Marinas

When sailing in Maddalena waters, you enter a natural world of incredible beauty. The islands are rocky and rugged, offering excellent coves and bays that are well-protected and picturesque. Swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving are magnificent. Exploring these areas is the highlight of sailing Maddalena, especially in calm weather.

We experienced a strong northwest wind and docked at Gavetta Marina, the main port.

Watch the visual pilot video; it’s a challenging mooring indeed…

Maddalena is a charming tourist town with many restaurants and bars. We docked at Gavetta Marina, which is the main harbour. Stroll through the narrow streets and browse the shops, where you can buy handicrafts, jewellery, and other items made by local artisans. The next day, we rented a car and drove around the island.

There are many fantastic anchorages at Maddalena Island. Cala Portese is a favourite and provides good shelter from westerly winds. Other excellent anchorage choices include the deep cove of Stagno Torto and Cala dello Spalmatore.
