Kos Island

Kos Island is located approx. 6M to the E of Kalymnos, tucked into the gulf of Kos between Myndus peninsula to the north and the Dorian promontory to the south. Kos was once famous for its silk dresses prized Coae vestes.

Kos Town
It is the capital and the main port of the island. The city lies on a large bay in the northeast of the island. It is the most inhabited place on the island and also one of its most exciting, a place of historical importance. In the city of Kos the highest concentration of hotels on the island. If one of your goals on vacation is a lively nightlife, you should stay in Kos town and rent a car or moped so that during the day you can run independently between beaches and villages and enjoy a stroll on the island. At night you can enjoy lively nightlife in Kos town, excellent taverns, bars, clubs and so on.

In the centre of Kos, you can be impressed by the Archaeological Museum, which is also close to the impressive city hall. Quite close to it stands the “Hippocrates Tree”, an ancient, ancient pine tree which, according to legend, is the place where Hippocrates sat and taught medical theory. In the west of the city, you will be impressed by an ancient Roman mosaic at the archaeological site. Also, visit the medieval gate of Medieval Gate and the beautiful facade of Agia Paraskevi. Near the city of Kos about 2 km from its centre you will be impressed by the Hellenistic Escalpion Temple.
The city of Kos is a northeastern point of the island, all locations listed below are southwest of it, in the centre of the island or its southern or northern coast.

Approach: from the E the fort on the S side of the entrance, the palace and a chimney. From the N & W, a large brown hotel.

Dangers: the shoals extending from Ak Ammoglossa. With a strong Meltemi blowing there are often confused seas off Ammoglossa.

Mooring: go stern to the E side. The bottom is mud, providing excellent holding.

The harbour is very crowded in the summer. The marina lies mile SE of the old harbour at Kos town.

You’ll need to wait until marina crew will guide you in (VHF Ch 77).

It has 250 berths, with depths 3-6m.

All facilities can be found in the marina.
