Gouvia Marina Sailing and Mooring Guide

Gouvia Marina Overview

Coordinates: 39º38′.59N 19º51.07E

Gouvia Marina in Corfu is the favourite starting point for the Ionian Islands’ dream sailing adventure. It is in a spacious enclosed bay in a prime location on the edge of Kontokali town, 2.5 NM to the NW of Corfu port.

Nisis Vidho is conspicuous across from the large port when approaching from the north and east. SE of the entrance to Gouvion Bay is the smaller Lazareto islet (Nisis Gouvino). When entering the bay, note that a shallow mud bank obstructs the south end of the entrance. Keep to the deeper north side. Red and green buoys mark the deeper channel (9m), also the leading guiding lights at night.

Anchoring and Mooring

To the NE of the bay, along the shore, there are some free anchoring spots in 5-12 m depths with good shelter from the wind. No anchoring is allowed within the northern part of the bay itself. The marina fills the entire southern part and has a mooring capacity of 1,235 yachts on both permanent and floating pontoons, while there are also dry dock facilities for approximately 520 yachts.

Boats must call upon arrival to receive instructions on VHF Ch 16, 69 (24/7). Berths can be booked ahead of time by phone or online. The distribution of berths is based on the dimensions of the boats. Gouvia Marina is fully organised and can accommodate boats up to 80 m long with up to 5.5 m draft (3.5-7 m depths). Berths are generally sheltered from the winds, except for those in the far west, where N/NE winds may become uncomfortable.

Facilities

Electricity (220V and 380V) and fresh water are available at all berths. There is a fuel dock at the NW end of the quay, but you may experience long queues, especially on Saturdays. All repairs can be done at the marina, and all facilities can be found around town (Nautilus Yacht Chandlers, Tel.: +30 266 109 0343). There is a shuttle service, though patience is required.

Dealers are located at quay A along the SW edge.

Be patient when refuelling here, queue – especially on Saturdays, and don’t forget your fenders.

Do not miss:

Corfu Island itself, it is extremely beautiful and worth at least couple of days of exploration, either by car, or sailing around it.
