Best Anchorages in the Maddalena Archipelago: Razzoli, Budelli & Santa Maria Islands

Razzoli, Budelli & Santa Maria islands are the northwestern group of the Maddalena archipelago. There are three bays providing good shelter:

Cala Santa Maria

Coordinates: 41°17’35.2″N 9°22’21.0″E

Located near the lighthouse on the eastern side of the island – Faro di Punta Filetto.

Cala Santa Maria is open to the south and east, and it gets very busy during the day. However, most of the anchorages are calm. You can anchor on sand near a nice beach ashore.

Cala G. Marino

Coordinates: 41°17.490’N, 09°21.320’E

This sheltered anchorage lies between the islands of Razzoli, Budelli, and Santa Maria. You can pick up a mooring or anchor off the southern shore in 3-5m on sand. Some buoys are reserved for the restaurant (red) and the park (yellow). Care is needed as rocks frame the shore, and the area is open to the west. The bottom is seaweed and sand, and it may not be ideal for yachts over 10 meters as the sandy part is very shallow.

Cala Lunga

Coordinates: 41° 17.93′ N, 9° 20.60′ E

Cala Lunga lies on the western side of Razzoli island. Care is needed at the entrance due to above and below water rocks, especially on the southern side. Anchor in 5-7m on sand with some rocks. There are a few mooring buoys available. The bay is open to westerly winds. Note: The southern shores are part of a national park and access is allowed with a guide. There is a path leading to an old lighthouse, which is about a 30-minute walk.

Cala Nord / Coccodrillo

Coordinates: 41°16’52.0″N 9°21’29.1″E

Cala Nord, also known as Coccodrillo, is a lovely day anchorage located north of the pink beach on Budelli island. It offers good shelter from westerly winds.
