Naoussa Marina — North-End Paros

A small fishing village that has grown into a working resort marina on the north end of Paros. Full sailor facilities, moorings at most piers, and a large bay surrounded by islets with rocks above and below the water — plot the chart carefully on approach.

Naoussa sits on the north end of Paros, in a large bay with the white lighthouse on Korakas marking the entrance. It started as a small fishing village and has grown into a substantial resort with the full range of services for sailors. The marina is functional, the bay is technically demanding (rocks around the islets), and the wind pattern requires picking the right pier — strong NW winds cause significant backwash on the NW and S piers.

⚠ Reality check:

Above and below-water rocks surrounding the islets and shores of the bay

Strong NW winds → bad backwash on NW and S piers

Approach & Navigation

The marina is in the large bay on the north end of Paros. The visual landmark for the entrance is the white lighthouse on Korakas — visible well in advance, and the reference point for the bay approach.

⚠ Critical hazard — Rocks around islets: Care is needed due to above and below-water rocks surrounding the islets and shores of the large bay. The chartplotter is essential here — do not rely on visual approach alone, and don’t cut corners around any of the islets.

Pier Selection by Wind

Where to Tie Up

Mooring lines: Available at most piers — drop your anchor and reverse, then secure stern lines and pick up the bow line.

Pier choice: The wind direction should drive your selection — see warning below.

⚠ Strong NW winds → bad backwash: Be cautious as strong NW winds can cause bad backwash on the NW and S piers. If NW conditions are forecast, choose a pier on the opposite side of the marina or move to anchor in a sheltered position.

Facilities at Naoussa

Water and electricity: Available at the berths.

Fuel: Delivered by mini-tanker to the harbour.

Around the marina: Many restaurants, shops, and hotels around the harbour front. Most facilities can be found nearby. The traditional fishing-village character is still visible in the older parts of the town — walk the front and pick what looks good for dining.

Pro Tips for Naoussa

Plot the rocks before commit. The above and below-water rocks around the islets are the headline approach hazard. Get them on the chartplotter before approaching the bay.

Pick the pier by NW forecast. If NW winds are forecast, the NW and S piers will get backwash. Take a pier on the protected side — heavy fenders ready regardless.

Use the white lighthouse as your reference. Korakas lighthouse is visible in good time. Plot a waypoint near it as your entry mark and follow it in.

Top up here for the Paros loop. Naoussa has fuller services than Piso Livadi or many of the small Paros anchorages — top up water, fuel (mini-tanker), and provisions before doing the rest of the island.

Walk the old town in the evening. The original fishing village layout survives in the streets behind the harbour — narrow whitewashed alleys, churches, the Venetian castle remains. Worth an hour of evening walking after dinner.

“Naoussa rewards the sailor who reads the chart first — Korakas lighthouse for the entrance, rocks around the islets, and a wind-aware pier choice. The reward is full services in a working marina with the old fishing-village streets still behind the front.”
