Bonifacio is one of the most attractive places to sail around Corsica or Sardinia. But there are a few things to look out for:
A katabatic wind (coming down the mountain)
A lane full of tourist boats, ferries (they have the right of way), and large ships
Narrow and crowded mooring, but a magical and extraordinary vibe
Approach
Look out for the lighthouse (Phare de la Madonetta). Watch out for fast boats and ferries that run in and out of the harbor.
Marina Bonifacio
Coordinates: 41°23’18.8″N 9°09’44.8″E
350 Berths
Max draft: 6m
Max length: 85m
VHF Channel: 09
Book in advance as mooring is narrow. Showers and toilets are available all around—see the marina map. The shelter is good, but it can be very noisy at night.
Anchorage in Calm Weather
La Cayenne – Coordinates: 41° 23.48′ N, 9° 9.37′ E
In calm weather, La Cayenne is a good alternative to the port of Bonifacio. It’s small and busy in season. The bottom is sand.
Facilities
This is a clean (Green) marina. You can climb up ancient steps carved into the cliff face, preferably with walking shoes. The ascent is also possible by train for 5 euros. There are lovely hiking trails out to the lighthouse with breathtaking views. Bonifacio offers lots of restaurants and bars, making it very hectic during the season.
