Sifnos Island: The Perfect Sailing Destination in Greece

Sifnos lies NE of Milos. It’s quiet, with a stunning landscape, great restaurants, and the best olive oil ever. The east coast is green and cultivated in places. The SE side of the island is the most popular.

Anchorages Around Sifnos

Several anchorages around Sifnos are perfect for sailors. Here are some top spots:

  • Kamares (36° 59’.50N 24° 39.21’ E) – The port of Kamares is on the west coast of the island. This popular spot offers good holding, with many tavernas and cafes nearby.
  • Vathi (36° 55′ 62N 24° 41′ 01E) – This magnificent bay has all-around shelter. Anchor in 5-10m outside the swimming area and moorings. The bottom is sand and algae. The small quay in front of the church has a max depth of 2.30m, possibly less, and room for 3-5 yachts. Water and electricity are available on the quay. Ashore, you can find some nice traditional restaurants.
  • Marina Platis Gialos (36° 55′ 79N 24° 43’ 98E) – This nice little organized marina offers good shelter, although there are strong gusts into the bay. No ferry service. Water and electricity are available on the quay. This bay is one of the most magical places we’ve ever been.
  • Faros (36° 56′ 3N 24° 45′ 2E) – Faros is a cozy little fishing hamlet with a couple of nice beaches. Care is needed due to an isolated rock. There is a short quay with 2-3m depths on the E side of the bay.
  • Kastro (36° 58′ 3N 24° 45’ 1E) – Kastro is the attractive Chora of the island, where they still use donkeys to transport goods within its very narrow streets.
