Introduction to Mahon (Maó)

Mahon, also known as Maó, is the capital of Minorca. Its expansive natural harbor bay offers excellent shelter, featuring marinas, an anchorage, and a significant old town. Mahon provides the shortest distance to Sardinia for sailors.

Approaching Mahon Harbor

Key points for approaching Mahon harbor:

  • La Mola peninsula marks the northern side of the harbor entry.
  • Access to the only permitted anchorage, Cala Taulera, is between the peninsula and Isla del Lazaretto.
