Ermioni — Sailing & Mooring Guide
A peninsula village on the Eastern Peloponnese with two quays — one for each wind direction. Walk over the saddle from north side to south, sleep on whichever side of the village the wind isn’t pushing into.
Ermioni sits on a small peninsula on the Eastern Peloponnese, roughly opposite Hydra across the channel. The village wraps around a low saddle — north side has one harbour, south side has another, and you can walk between them in 5 minutes. This geography is the practical key to Ermioni: pick the side of the village that’s lee to the wind, and you have a calm berth even when conditions are difficult elsewhere.
For sailors, this is one of the most-loved smaller Saronic stops — authentic, not yacht-touristy, with proper Greek waterfront tavernas and a Thursday market that draws shoppers from the whole region. The water-taxi service to Hydra makes it a useful crew-rotation point, and the supermarket is one of the better-stocked on this coast. Reliable provisioning, two-sided shelter, easy walk-everywhere geography.
⚠ Reality check: Care is needed on approach from the ancient mole on the north side of the headland. The Southern Quay is not protected from southerly or easterly winds — pick the eastern town quay (north side) when those are forecast. Both sides of the village are workable; the choice depends on wind direction, not preference.

Approach & Navigation
Watch the ancient mole
Care is needed on approach from the ancient mole on the north side of the headland. The remnants of the old harbour wall sit close to the surface — give the headland proper clearance and don’t try to cut the corner.
Two-sided geography
The village sits on a low peninsula with a harbour on each side. The east town quay faces north (well-sheltered from S/E winds). The South Quay faces south (well-sheltered from N/NW winds, exposed to S/E). Pick your side based on the forecast — the geography lets you rotate between them as conditions change.
⚓ Mooring Options
East Town Quay (North Side) · Best Shelter
Med-mooring on the East Town Quay
The recommended primary option — Mediterranean-style stern-to on the eastern town quay. Dock inside for good shelter. This is the side most crews choose first.
Best for: Standard overnight, walk-ashore village access, evening at a waterfront taverna.
Alternative: Stern-to on either side of the ferry quay if the town quay is full.
Southern Quay · 37°23.02’N · 23°14.83’E
Stern-to the Southern Quay
The other side of the village — plenty of space, very calm in northerly or north-westerly winds. Go stern on the east side. Walk over the saddle to reach the main town.
Bottom: Sand and weed.
Best for: When the east quay is full, or when N/NW winds make this the calmer side.
⚠ Watch: Not protected from southerly or easterly winds — pick the east town quay if S/E forecast.
Anchor in the Bay · 4–6 m
Anchor on the N or E Side
Depth: 4–6 m
Bottom: Mud and weed — visually identify a clean patch before drop.
Best for: Quay overflow in season, quieter night.
Facilities & Services
Water & electricity: Available on demand at the quay — call to arrange. [+306976277112 Kostas ]
Fuel: Available in town, delivered by mini-tanker. Call ahead to arrange.
Provisioning: The big supermarket in Ermioni is one of the better-stocked on this stretch of coast — useful for proper provisioning runs. Map link opens in Google Maps.
Thursday market: Weekly market draws sellers and shoppers from the whole region — fresh produce, fish, cheese, household items. If your schedule allows it, time your visit for Thursday.
Banks, ATMs, pharmacy: All present in the village.
Ferries & water-taxis to Hydra: Regular services across the channel — useful for crew rotations, half-day visits to Hydra without moving the boat, or arrival/departure points for joining crew.
Where to Eat — Sailors’ Picks
Ermioni’s restaurants are more locally-oriented than the resort spots at Spetses or Porto Cheli — fewer flash places, more honest tavernas. Standards are good, prices fair, atmosphere unforced.
Mouragio
A long-running waterfront classic on the east side — fresh fish, mezze, traditional Greek menu. Sit outside if you can. [link]
Lemoni
A quieter spot a few streets back — family-run, grilled fish, the kind of evening that ends slowly. [link]
Pro Tips for Ermioni
Pick your quay by wind direction. N/NW forecast → Southern Quay. S/E forecast → East Town Quay. The walk over the saddle takes 5 minutes, so the geography of the village means you should never sleep on a working quay.
Time it for Thursday. The weekly market is the best provisioning day on this coast — fresh fish, vegetables, cheese, the lot. Worth planning a route around if you can.
Use the water-taxi to Hydra. Cheaper than moving the boat — half-day visit to Hydra (lunch, walk the car-free streets), back to Ermioni for the night. Crew gets the Hydra experience without the Hydra docking dance.
Walk the saddle. The ridge between the two harbours has views over both — 5-minute walk between them, with cafés and tavernas along the way. Good for a sunset stroll.
Plot the ancient mole. The submerged old-harbour wall on the north side of the headland is a real hazard — keep proper clearance on approach.
Suggested Routes from Ermioni
South to Spetses (10 NM): Down to Spetses Island — Baltiza Old Harbour, Anargiri love-cave, multiple anchorages.
South-west to Porto Cheli (4 NM): A short hop to Porto Cheli — sheltered overnight with full marina services.
East to Hydra (4 NM): Across the channel to the car-free island of Hydra. If you don’t want to dock there, water-taxi from Ermioni works.
North to Poros (15 NM): Up to Poros — neoclassical sailing town separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow channel.
