Epidavros is one of the most important cities in ancient Greece. Located in the east of the Peloponnese on the Saronic Gulf, on the way to Corinth, the city is known for three main factors:
The birthplace of the healer Asclepius, the son of Apollo.
A city of refuge, a healing city for the sick.
The extraordinary theatre, which is still active today. Built in the 4th century BC, it is renowned for its beauty, power, architecture, and acoustics.
A church on the north side of the bay and the village of Palaia Epidhavros at the head of the bay mark your entrance. Pass between the two buoys marking the channel.
Mooring
Go stern to the pier. The bottom is sand and mud, providing reasonable shelter. Alternatively, you can anchor in the bay at Kalamaki Beach. The bay is open to the east, so don’t anchor too close to the beach and ensure your holding tank is on.
Facilities
Some water and electricity points available.
The main attraction is the theatre, about 20 minutes away by taxi. It boasts classical architecture and outstanding acoustics.
Magical Bay: 37°38’51.3″N 23°09’55.1″E
In calm weather, you can anchor in 10-15m with a long line ashore. The bay is open to the east.
