Sailing Area: Culatra Island Faro

Culatra 36° 59′ 58″ N, 7° 50′ 20″ W

This is a large anchorage with good holding. open to northerly winds. 

Ilha da Culatra is worth a visit. There are great views and nice beaches on the Atlantic side.

Approach To canal de Faro- one entrance many anchorages

A tidal lagoons run along the coast for about 30M between the mainland and the sea

The entrance at Cabo de Santa Maria is marked and the way through the sand defined by breakwaters

The coast is very low-lying and currents of up to 3kn

There are marine farms on the way – care is needed

The  bottom is sand, mud & weed- good holding
