Sailing from Koh Chang to Koh Kut: A Thai Island Adventure

Departing from Koh Chang

We took a brief hiatus from our Mediterranean explorations to join the Via Maris flotilla, led by Dudi in Koh Chang, Thailand. We arrived at our destination after a long journey involving two flights, a taxi, and a ferry. Our first tasks were to exchange money and unwind at a local resort before embarking on our sailing adventure.

Charter Base and Departure

We checked in at the charter base on the southern bay of Koh Chang, attended the skipper’s briefing, and set sail the following day. Our starting point was Ao Salak Phet (11°58’58.7″N 102°22’37.8″E).

Navigating the Koh Chang Archipelago

Arriving at Koh Kut

We sailed approximately 20 nautical miles to Koh Kut island, anchoring in 5 meters of water on a sandy bottom near Captain Hook’s Resort (11°40’55.8″N 102°31’31.5″E).

Exploring Koh Kut

• Took a dinghy ride up a small river
• Enjoyed a delightful dinner at Captain Hook’s Resort
• Visited the waterfall stop for a day anchorage (Ao Khlong Chao: 11°37’51.4″N 102°32’31.2″E)
• Anchored overnight in the sheltered southern bay (Ao Phrao: 11°35’19.7″N 102°33’58.4″E)
