You can also anchor in Ko Dam Hok North 7°58.542’N 98°48.681’E

Anchor to the east of the small island in 12m.

Excellent shelter in the southwest season but if there is a groundswell you can anchor a little further to the east of the beach. Beware of the reef which runs to Ko Dam Khwan. When Northeasterly winds prevail this is not suitable for overnight anchoring.

Do not pass between Ko Dam Hok and Ko Dam Khwan.

Ko Dam Khwan East 7°58.542’N 98°48.681’E (Chicken Head Island)

Anchor in 11-12m on sand but beware of large coral heads and dive to inspect the set of the anchor once settled. This is a good spot in the southwest season, but not suitable for overnight in the Northeasterly season

Our overnight stop was

Klong Dao, Ko Lanta Northwest 7°38.322’N 99°1.299’E

The west coast of Ko Lanta has lots of anchorages during the Northeast season, but none that are suitable when southwesterly winds prevail.

Lots of bungalow resorts and restaurants.

Anchor in the middle of the bay in 4-6m. Beware of the shallow reef and rocks to the south of this anchorage.

Take a taxi to nearby Saladin town.

Seasons in Thailand

From the meteorological point of view, the climate of Thailand may be divided into

three seasons as follows :

 Rainy or southwest monsoon season (mid-May to mid-October). The southwest monsoon prevails over Thailand, and abundant rain occurs over the country. The wettest period of the year is August to September. The exception is found in the Southern Thailand East Coast where abundant rainfall remains until the end of the year that is the beginning period of the northeast monsoon and November is the wettest month.

 Winter or northeast monsoon season (mid-October to mid-February). is the mild period of the year with quite cold in December and January in upper Thailand. Still, there is a significant amount of rainfall in Southern Thailand East Coast, especially during October to November.

 Summer or pre-monsoon season, mid-February to mid-May. This is the transitional period from the northeast to southwest monsoons. The weather becomes warmer, especially in upper Thailand. April is the hottest month.
