Sailing Tips for Algarve Anchorages

Lagos

Lagos is a historic town with a large, well-organized marina. You can anchor northeast of the eastern breakwater in 6m on sand. South of Lagos, Ponta da Piedade offers an outstanding anchorage, though it can get very crowded in the summer.

Portimão

Marina Portimão provides excellent anchoring options. You can also anchor inside the eastern breakwater for added protection.

Culatra

Culatra is a popular anchorage near Faro. The bottom consists of sand, mud, and seaweed, providing good holding for your anchor.

Vila Real de Santo António

Don’t miss this lovely beach with its great restaurants and the amazing ‘graveyard of the anchors’. This river forms the border between Spain and Portugal, offering a unique cross-country experience.
