Sailing to Mallorca’s NE Coast

We sailed from Port Ginesta (near Barcelona) for 90M to the NE Coast of Mallorca. With sunrise, we experienced a dramatic entrance to Cape Formentor.

Approach to Cape Formentor

The approach offers a dramatic entrance to the cap of Formentor, marked by the Formentor Lighthouse. You can choose to anchor in Cala en Gossalba or Cala Murta upon arrival.

Top Anchorages

Cala Murta

Coordinates: 39° 56.40′ N, 3° 10.92′ E (Pollensa)

A spectacular small anchorage
Anchor in 5-10m on sand only (reserved area)
Bottom is mostly weed, with some sandy spots

Cala Pi de La Posada (Formentor)

Coordinates: 39° 55.45′ N, 3° 8.20′ E

Large, sheltered bay
Bar and restaurant on the beach (closed at night)
Anchor in 5-10m or rent a buoy

Our Sailing Experience

We chose to anchor in Cala Murta for a refreshing swim and breakfast. For the night, we anchored in Formentor. Alternatively, you can spend the night in the bay of Pollença, approximately 2M W from Formentor.

- Anchor at Vathi Bay for a relaxing lunch, then dock at Marina Platis Gialos for the night to explore the local scene.

Day 2:
- Sail to Milos, 20 nautical miles southwest.
- Stop at Papafragas Beach for a swim, then dock at Adamantas Harbour, known for its lively atmosphere.

Day 3:
- Embark on a long sail to Ios, 47 nautical miles east, or opt for Folegandros, 30 nautical miles east, if conditions are challenging.
- Enjoy Ios’s vibrant nightlife or relax in Agkali Bay on Folegandros.

Day 4:
- Sail to Santorini, 20 nautical miles southeast.
- Secure a buoy at Captain John and take a water taxi to Thira to explore the caldera views and enjoy a sunset dinner.

Day 5:
- Sail north to the small paradise of Koufonisia, 33 nautical miles away.
- Moor at the main harbour, visit Pori Beach and experience the island’s laid-back charm and delightful seafood.

Day 6:
- Head to Schoinousa and Irakleia, 9.5 nautical miles southwest.
- Anchor at Tsigouri Beach for lunch, then moor at Agios Georgios in Irakleia for a peaceful evening under the stars.

Day 7:
- Return to Paros, 30 nautical miles west, stopping at Livadi Bay for a final swim and breakfast.

Some tips: Prepare for Mediterranean mooring. Check the weather for Meltemi winds, And immerse yourself in the local culture and cuisine at each stop. Safe sailing!
