Nearby Islands

Gospa od Skrpjela 42˚29.222’N 018˚41.447’E

WARNING: The bura wind here blows from the Bay of Risan towards the Verige Pass and is not as strong at the docks. However, sirocco and maestral winds that blow from the Verige Pass can create challenging conditions, though they do not typically generate large waves.

Sveti Djordje 42˚29.153’N 018˚41.452’E

The water around these islands is deep, with a shallower patch of just 7 meters depth to the north of Gospa. Between the islands, the depth is approximately 4 meters. Visitors can tie up at the quay to visit the church and museum. If a tripping boat arrives, you may need to move your boat. The area offers good shelter from west and northwest winds.

Sailing Caution

Strait of Verige – Anchoring Prohibited

The Strait of Verige is the narrowest and most picturesque part of the Boka Bay of Kotor, connecting the Tivat, Risan, and Kotor bays. The strait has an average depth of 30 meters and a width of no more than 250 meters. Despite its size, the strait can be quite restless due to the constant strong current. Anchoring is prohibited in this area.

Veriga is surrounded by beautiful scenic forests, and the water is rich in fish and other underwater life, with some species hiding in the abundant algae.

Sailors tips

WARNING:

The port is well-protected from wind, apart from the western winds that cause waves. The bura wind is strong, but it does not create waves. During low tide, the north-western currents are strong next to the docks and the shore; to the north of the docks, the inflow of the Škurda River creates a current that can become strong after rainfall.
